Provide Analytical Development support for our growing pharmaceutical development programs. Through the application of an expertise in laboratory techniques commonly used in the analysis of pharmaceutical products, this role will ensure that suitable methods are in place to support Preclinical, Phase I, II & III development compounds.

Key Responsibilities Include:
- Develop and validate appropriate analytical methods to assess the purity, potency and stability of solid oral dosage drug products

- Assist in the summarization and presentation of technical data in support of various development activities such as formulation, process optimization, and specifications setting

- Prepare analytical data, reports, and CMC documents required for regulatory submissions

- Transfer analytical methods to external vendors

- Interact effectively with contract laboratories: coordinate selected activities including batch release and stability studies; provide technical support and trouble shooting for Out of Specification/Out of Trend (OOS/OOT) investigations; monitor performance and ensure the data quality

- Interact with other departments (Formulation, Regulatory, Quality, etc), representing Analytical Development and its role in the drug development process

- Help to build the infrastructure to enable Phase III readiness and GMP compliance capabilities through successful partnerships with other staff members in Analytical Development and Pharmaceutical Development.

Basic Qualifications
- A PhD or Master’s Degree in the life or physical sciences with a preference for a concentration in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or Pharmaceutical Chemistry

- 0 - 3 years (PhD) or 3+ years (MS) or current and relative industry experience with experience in drug substance and/or dosage form support, particularly oral solid dosage forms preferred

1. Manage all aspects of the purchasing function. This will include MRO and Capital purchasing as well as Direct Material purchasing, such as API.

2. Set purchasing cost reduction goals in accordance with company initiatives and direct staff toward achieving those goals.

3. Work closely with internal departmentsengineering, maintenance, production, and product development to clearly determine their needs and develop and execute RFQs that fulfill those requirements.

4. Negotiate and work with suppliers on an ongoing basis to insure quality, delivery, and price targets are developed and met.
5. Manage the database of supplier agreements and proactively identify opportunities for cost, quality, or delivery improvement. Identify and solve complex commercial problems related to suppliers and the delivery of products and services. The manager should act as a liaison and consultant to all internal department requiring purchasing assistance.

6. Work closely with the product and process development to make sure that we meet the requirements for all product launch products. This includes working with them obtain the most competitive pricing on APIs and other key components.

7. Manage all purchasing goalsPPV, cost savings, supplier management scorecard goals, and Global initiatives.

8. Work closely with the US Purchasing Manager team and support those initiatives.

9. Acts as a liaison between raw material suppliers and the Generic Committee, updates computer chemical information sheets, committee booklets and attends bi-monthly meetings.

10. Manage the overall purchasing budget, manage the purchasing team including both Direct and MRO categories of the business. Develop and maintain training in
requirements for the staff as related to both the functional area as well as SOPs and other pertinent areas (sales tax management for purchasing, international requirements, etc. )

Job Requirements

Position requires a technical (chem or life sciences) or business degree with 10-15 years progressive experience in purchasing, materials mgmt, with a minimum of 5 years supervisory or managerial experience in purchasing. REQUIRES an industry background in pharmaceutical manufacturing.

The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Section Supervisor, Applied Chemistry.



Required:

PhD in chemistry (analytical preferred) with a minimum of 10 years experience working with modern chemical analytical laboratory operations. Must have extensive expertise on the appropriate application of modern analytical equipment, such as Capillary Electrophoresis, Raman Spectroscopy, GC/MS, ICP/OES or ICP/MS, NMR, FTIR, and HPLC for the solution of chemical and materials problems.
