November 4: Call for Symposia for Washington ACS Meeting August 2009
The 238th American Chemical Society National Meeting will be held in Washington DC from August, 16-20, 2009. The theme for this conference is Chemistry and Global Security: Challenges and Opportunities. Please contact the division program chair if you would like to suggest a topic and chair a session for contributed papers or alternatively, if you would like to organize a symposium. Symposia cosponsored with other Divisions will also be welcomed.
October 25: Division Strategic Plan updated
The Division of Analytical Chemistry Strategic Plan from 2006 has been updated. Comments and feedback will be welcomed by Carla Garic. We thank Chris Enke, a past Chair of the Division, for initiating the plan and for this update.
October 13: Fall 2008 Division Newsletter just published
The latest issue of the Newsletter is available here on the web. It features messages from the new Chair, Isiah Warner, the immediate Past Chair, Laurie Locascio, and the Chair of the Subdivision on Chromatography and Separations Chemistry, Susan Olesik; reports and photos from the Division Award sessions at the recent ACS Meeting; a salute to Dow Chemical Company on the 25th anniversary of its support for the Award in Chemical Instrumentation; and information on program plans for 2009.
October 5: Nominations for Division Awards
Nominations for the 2009 Division of Analytical Chemistry awards are due November 1, 2008. Full information on submitting nominations is on the Awards page.
September 26: No Graduate Travel Awards for 2009
The Division will not be providing the Graduate Travel Awards for the 2009 PittCon, due to withdrawal of the sponsor from the program for the coming year.
September 13: Submitting papers for the next ACS National Meeting
The Division will have a program of contributed paper oral sessions and a poster session at the National Meeting in Salt Lake City, March 22-28, 2008. The list of sessions is available and abstracts may be submitted via OASyS until October 25.
Kolthoff Award applications invited
The I.M. Kolthoff Unrichment Awards for undergraduate students provide travel funds for participation in the Spring ACS Meeting in Salt Lake City. Applications are invited now and must be submitted by October 31, 2008.
September 1: Division abstracts for PittCon 2009 still being accepted
There will be five sessions for oral papers organized by the Division of Analytical Chemistry at PittCon in Chicago next March 8 to 13, plus a Division poster session. Abstracts can be submitted through December 2008. Be sure to mark the abstract "ACS oral/poster" when it is submitted.
August 28: New Newsletter Editor
The Division has a new Editor for its Newsletter, Prof. Xudong Yao of the University of Connecticut. He will welcome submission of items for consideration for
publication in future Newsletters. We thank Victor Ryzhov of Northern Illinois
University for his splendid service as Editor for the past several years.

Revised August 22:Updated: Division Members now receiving Annual Review of Analytical Chemistry
Annual Reviews has published the
first volume of a new series devoted to analytical chemistry.
The Editors are Edward Yeung and Richard Zare. Division members are now receiving
their copy of the printed volume (free of charge) and will have on-line access to the series from
2008 on as part of the Division dues. (original version posted on May 30)
July 25:Analytical Division program deadline of August 15 for PittCon 2009
The Division plans five contributed paper sessions and a poster session at the Pittsburgh Conference in Chicago, March 2-7, 2009. Instructions for submitting abstracts
are now available. The program includes seven invited sessions organized by the
Subdivision of Chromatography and Separations Chemistry to celebrate its 25th
anniversary.
The Division's Undergraduate Awards for 2008 announced
The annual recognition of outstanding undergraduate students by the Division has just been announced. There are 334 recipients of this honor at colleges and universities in Canada and the United States.
July 16:Deadline for Subdivision election ballots is July 31, 2008
The annual election for the Subdivision of Chromatography and Separations Chemistry ends on July 31. If you did not receive information on the election, please contact the Subdivision's Secretary, Robert Stevenson.
July 6: Philadelphia ACS National Meeting Program Available
The complete technical program for the Division is now available online. It is one of the largest programs ever offered by the Division, with 26 symposia, including ten in the Health focus area of the meeting. A special feature is the NIH New Innovator Award Symposium.

Division dinner at Chemical Heritage Foundation
The Philadelphia ACS National Meeting will feature a reception and awards
dinner at the Chemical Heritage Foundation on Monday, August 18. The Chemical
Heritage Foundation is located near Independence Park and includes many
exhibits of interest to analytical chemists. The reception is sponsored by the
Division of Chemistry and the Law.

organized or co-organized by the Division. There also are reports from PittCon
2008 and the Spring ACS National Meeting. Ted Kuwana, Managing Director of the
Analytical Sciences Digital Library, provides an update on the ASDL and the
analyticalsciences.org web site.
